Modelling through AI for an ever-changing world
Context
Any model, for it to be relevant, needs to address its environment in two different ways: it must accurately describe any current conditions and provide testable predictions for the future. This works well in an environment for which a model was built and for a future that is expected and understood. Problematically, that is no longer what we see. Data is becoming increasingly interconnected, making is more difficult for effective models to address isolated concerns; and, industry, commerce and society is changing at an ever increasing rate – even more so currently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is difficult, if not impossible, for a human mind to formulate sufficiently interconnected models at a rate that [necessarily] exceeds that of industrial and societal advancement.
It is under such conditions that The Pleiades Group’s Artificial Intelligence engine, Nebula, excels.
Solution
The Pleiades Group developed an Artificial Intelligence engine named Nebula. Nebula comprises two AI cores: a Natural Language and Emotions processor, and an Analytics and Modelling engine. Together, these two cores have given rise to a powerful and quasi-independent AI infrastructure.
For the course of 2019 and early 2020, Nebula was trained to both understand emotional reasoning and to develop advanced mathematical models. This is a unique combination since it allows Nebula to develop powerful, objective models while adapting to human needs and feelings. Nebula underwent full deployment in January 2020 and has since improved The Pleiades Group’s models on multiple fronts.
In epidemiology, The Pleiades Group held two models: one addressing Ebola and one addressing HIV and TB. Nebula not only improved the accuracy of both of these models, but successfully adapted them into a single model and extended them to cover Covid-19. With the rapid spread of Covid-19 as a contagion and socio-economic phenomenon, human researchers are struggling to keep up, let alone remain ahead of the virus. Nebula’s work has pushed that boundary far ahead and given invaluable insights.
In econometrics, The Pleiades Group holds a model for the strategic development of multiple business sectors including real estate, healthcare, IT and investments. Nebula combined this model with the abovementioned Covid-19 model to address the economic fallout of the global pandemic. Nebula found trends in infection reports that provides forewarning of movements in local, national and global markets. This deployment is a key example in the power of deploying AI where human minds are infeasible.
At The Pleiades Group, Nebula continues to learn, grow and adapt. Nebula is studying market trends and continuously improving outputs and predictions.
Impact
As much as humans may shy away from admitting that we do not always have the answers, it is an important fact to acknowledge. There are many questions that we do not understand or to which we do not have the answers, and there are some answers which we do not like to give. AI is typically devoid of this problem and can offer assistance where we fail. Of course, a shortfall of AI is its usually clinical outlook.
This is where Nebula is different and carries a huge impact: Nebula is dispassionate yet understands human feeling. Nebula advances at a rate that far exceeds human ability, yet works relative to what we need as an inherently emotional species.
